Aireys Inlet is located on the scenic Great Ocean Road, between the larger centres of Anglesea and Lorne and nestled between the bushland of the Otway Ranges and the undulating sand dunes of the coastline. There are two small but distinct commercial centres in town - one in the north, including a general store, post office and a couple of food outlets, and a slightly larger centre just east of Painkalac Creek, featuring fashion outlets and more eateries. The primary landmark in town is the Split Point Lighthouse which was built in 1891 and stands 34 metres tall. The lighthouse was the locale for the well known childrens' programme: Around the Twist. There are some great walking tracks near the lighthouse which offer scenic views over the coast. A few kilometres west of Aireys Inlet is Fairhaven Beach, which is renowned for its surf and Eastern View which is the site of the Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch, commemorating the construction of the road as a memorial to those that lost their lives during World War One. A little further along the Great Ocean Road is Cinema Point where sweeping views of the coast can be enjoyed. The Great Otway National Park, inland from Aireys Inlet, features fern gullies, waterfalls and includes the steep timbered ridges of the eastern Otways. Aireys Inlet accommodation is limited so if you are thinking of staying here in peak season then make sure you book early.

Anglesea is situated between Aireys Inlet and Torquay and is the first spot on the Great Ocean Road where the road meets the coast. Anglesea has a sweeping ocean beach which is perfect for families. It's one of the few beaches along the coast to be patrolled. The scenery on the coast and the spectacular forested hinterland make Anglesea a popular tourist destination. There are lots of watersports to be had here as The Anglesea River passes through the middle of the town. Lots of parks and gardens and a magnificent boardwalk which skirts the river and wetlands areas. Anglesea accommodation is varied and plentiful but during peak season can book out very quickly so be sure to book in advance. Happy holidays.
