The Great Ocean Walk on Victoria's magnificent West Coast was first established in 2006 and rambles along one of the most spectacular coastlines in the world for almost 100 kilometres. The Great Ocean Walk begins in the small, coastal township of Apollo Bay and concludes at Glenample, an old historic homestead, just before the famous 12 Apostles. The scenery along the way is nothing short of breathtaking. Views - stunning views of the coast and local bush - which cannot be seen if you simply choose to drive the Great Ocean Road. The Great Ocean Walk passes through sections of the Great Otway National Park and also through the recently created Marine National Park and Sanctuary. The Great Ocean Walk has been designed so that walkers can "step on and step off" at numerous places along the way. Walkers can opt to get off early so to speak and complete short sections of the walk in a few hours, a half day, a full day or camp overnight on or off the trail. There are designated camping areas along the way or you can choose to stay at one or a few of the many local accommodation properties which are situated on or near the walk. These properties can also arrange shuttle services for walkers if required and direct you to some of the sensational, local eating establishments.
