Warrnambool is one of the major resort cities along Victoria's Shipwreck Coast on the Great Ocean Road. It's a perfect spot to stop off if you are doing a tour of the Shipwreck Coast and the Great Ocean Road and is ideal to use as a base from which to explore all that this fantastic region has to offer. And there is much more to this area than simply the 12 Apostles. In the early 19th century whalers settled this region of the coast and begun hunting the Southern Right Whale to the point of extinction. Today however, the whales have made the area their home and come to nearby Logan's Beach each year in winter to give birth.
