Lorne is known as Victoria’s premier tourist town and for very good reason. You would have to travel a long way to find a more picturesque seaside town. Loutit Bay is perhaps the most family friendly beach on the entire Great Ocean Road. It is very safe for swimming and is patrolled in the summer months. It is also one of the best places to learn to surf. Don’t worry about buying expensive surf gear – you can hire everything in Lorne. Almost any water sport is available in Lorne with the possible exception of jet skis – and who wants jets skis buzzing around your kids! Fishing is now even more popular with the new Lorne pier. Excellent fish are regularly taken from this pier. For those of you who are not interested in things of the ocean you will be pleasantly surprised with loads of other land based activities available. Just take a short drive inland to refreshing temperate rainforests and marvellous waterfalls. Lorne’s very own Erskine Falls is splendid. Every year more and more tourists are spending time away in Lorne. As a result Lorne accommodation is on the increase but you will still need to book well in advance if you intend to stay during peak season.
